Energy Expert

Today I decided to do something different and write about the creator of the Energy Talking Points (EnergyTalkingPoint.com), the 43-year-old American Duke University graduate and author, Alex Epstein (alexepstein.com). He advocates for the expansion of fossil fuels. The Energy Talking Points website is informative, fact based, and discusses the current energy policy and energy freedom or lack of.

Alex has written three books on fossil fuels which have received good reviews including the New York Times bestseller, The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, written in 2014. His previous book, Fossil Fuels Improve the Planet, was written in 2013. In 2022 Alex published another book, Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas – Not Less.

The Center for Industrial Progress (CIP) was founded by Alex in 2011. This is a for-profit think tank that believes humans can use technology to improve the planet across many industries such as agriculture, energy, and mining to name a few.

Alex’s latest Energy Talking Points article online is called “The myth that “97% of climate scientists agree” about a climate crisis”. Most scientists agree there is some climate impact; however, this does not justify elimination of fossil fuels. This is nothing but a scary tactic to eliminate energy freedom.

The huge benefit of fossil fuels cannot be denied. They provide over 80% of global energy in a world that is short of energy. Three billion humans use less electricity than an American refrigerator and billions more use amounts of energy that are unacceptable to Americans. Now, I am not suggesting we eliminate the refrigerator and go back to the ice box. This would be insane and create a whole different set of problems.

Human life expectancy has expanded for decades. We are now healthier and have a cleaner environment because of low-cost energy. Deaths from climate disasters have decreased 98% over the last century. Diesel machinery and natural gas-based fertilizer have increased the availability of food for eight billion people.

When someone is advocating for a certain policy, he will only tout its benefits. In this case, the anti-fossil fuel groups only talk about the side effects while ignoring the benefits. Also, the group exaggerates negative climate impacts. Do not be quick to jump on the anti-fossil fuels bandwagon! Do your own research. Check out the Energy Talking Points website by Alex Epstein.
